What are the companies threats?
What are the companies opportunities?
If you were king for a day, what five things would you change?
What department needs the most improvements?
Which major process should be improved?
What is the mission of the company?
What are the companies weaknesses?
What are its strengths?

The strategy map pulls the objectives into a visual strategy and translates it into operational terms that every employee in the organization can understand. It draws a picture of your strategy.

Board meetings monitor the Strategy Report Card to see how well the company is doing at achieving the strategy.  Poor grades will indicate change is necessary before it affects financial success.

The Five Stages of Strategy Development

Stage 1 : Executive Leadership

Mobilize change through executive leadership.

Create the guiding coalition - the Strategic Planning Board - The single most important condition for success is the ownership and active involvement of the executive team. If those at the top are not energetic leaders of the process, change will not take place, strategy will not be implemented, and the opportunity for breakthrough performance will be missed. Once started, insist on expedition of the process.

Develop the vision and the strategy – The focus begins with mobilization. After the strategy is mobilized, the focus shifts to governance. Finally and gradually over time, a new management system evolves - a strategic management system.

Stage 2  Translate the strategy

Translate the strategy into operational terms so that every company worker can understand it.

Stage 3  Organization Alignment

The synergy of everyone contributing to the same objectives is the overarching goal.  Each department must contribute in some way to accomplishing as many objectives as possible that appear in the strategy.  This is done by launching initiatives that improve a current process or by doing something new according to the description of how the objective is to be accomplished.  Lastly, a process to collect measurement data must be in place once the initiatives are implemented.  A company Core Team is formed to assist departments through the process.

Stage 4  Make strategy everyone's everyday job

Move the strategy from the 10 to the 10,000. Require that all employees understand the strategy and conduct their day-to-day business in a way that contributes to its success.  Accomplished through awareness and motivation programs, and character improvement workshops.

Stage 5  Make strategy a continual process

Link strategy to budget and a process for learning and adapting the strategyBoard meetings monitor the Strategy Report Card to see how well the company is doing at achieving the strategy.  Poor grades will indicate change is necessary before it affects financial success.
